  5. Resolved Question: Ways to be more organized?
  6. 2 Feb 2008 at 9:02pm
Recently with my new daytime job and evening classes, I've lost track of paperwork, keys, appointments, deadlines, etc. I'm by nature anti-day planner and tend to switch between writing down tasks on my igoogle to-do list homepage, my bulletin boards, and my day-planner. I'm heading off to grad school this fall and want to get control of my finances and develop systems that work for myself. How to get more organized and less careless? Thanks.

  8. 26 Jan 2008 at 5:17pm
I'm trying to help out a home owner's association who already has their own webpage. They have a clubhouse and would like to be able to post things such as rules for the swimming pool to a bulletin board section of their existing webpage. They would also like a simple calendar system that would allow 2 or 3 people with admin priviledges to schedule events (cookouts, clubhouse reservations, etc..) even if several events may occur on the same day so that the calendar is accessible to everyone. What would be the simplest route to incorporate these features into their existing (simple) website? They would be willing to pay for a prewritten/canned system if one exists. Thanks.

Christine notes: "Just because something is on this list doesn't mean that it will definitely, or even probably, cause a false-positive. It depends on what antibodies the individual carries as well as the characteristics of each particular test kit. For instance, some, but not all people who have had blood transfusions, prior pregnancies or an organ transplant will make HLA antibodies. And some, but not all test kits (both ELISA and Western blot) will be contaminated with HLA antigens to which these antibodies can react. Only if these two conditions coincide might you get a false-positive due to HLA cross-reactivity. There are conditions that are more likely than others to cause false-positives. And there are some conditions that we aren't aware of yet which may be documented in the future to cause false-positives. Some of the factors on the list have been documented only for ELISA, while some have been documented for both ELISA and Western blot (WB) tests. People may be eager to argue that if a factor is only known to cause false-positives on ELISA, this problem won't be carried over to the WB. But remember, a WB is positive by virtue of accumulating enough individual positive bands to add up to the total required by whatever criteria is used to interpret it 39. So the more exposure a person has had to foreign antigens, proteins and infectious agents, the more various antibodies he or she will have in their system, and the more likely it is that there will be several cross-reacting antibodies, enough to make the WB positive. It is to be noted that all AIDS risk groups (and Africans as well), but not the general US or Western European population, have this problem in common: they have been exposed to a plethora of foreign antigens and proteins. This is why people in the AIDS "risk groups" tend to have positive WBs (i.e., to be considered "HIV-infected") and people in the population don't. However, even people in low-risk populations have false-positive Western blots for poorly understood reasons 47. Since false-positives to every single HIV protein have been documented 36, how do we know if the positive WB bands represent the various proteins to HIV, or a collection of false-positive bands reacting to several different non-HIV antibodies?" 11. Resolved Question: Which Forum / Bulletin board system is best?
  12. 14 Jan 2008 at 1:01pm
I'm going to set up an online forum/bulletin board, and I'm looking for the one that most suits my needs. I DO need 1. a fast, clean, simple interface. 2. an easy way to page through all the messages in time order, with "next' "prev" buttons if someone wants to read every post in order. 3. Easy to manage. (I'm pretty technical, but I'm no expert.) I DON'T need. 1. it to be free. I don't mind paying for a good system or one that comes with good support/hand holding 2. that's all really. :) Other nice features would include recommendations, the ability to post chunks of basic html and images directly, and maybe a private password protected section or facility. thanks in advance for your help!

  13. Resolved Question: what do the words below mean?
  14. 9 Jan 2008 at 6:22pm
Leet originated within bulletin board systems in the 1980s,[1][2] where having "elite" status on a BBS allowed a user access to file folders, games, and special chat rooms, often including archives of pirated software, pornography, or text files documenting topics such as how to construct explosives and manufacture illegal drugs.[3] One theory is that it was developed to defeat text filters created by BBS or Internet Relay Chat system operators for message boards to discourage the discussion of forbidden topics, like cracking and hacking.[1] However, creative misspellings and ASCII-art-derived words were also a way to attempt to indicate one was knowledgeable about the culture of computer users. Once reserved to use by hackers, crackers, and script kiddies, Leet has since entered the mainstream.[1] It is now also used to mock newbies, or newcomers, on web sites, or in gaming communities.[4] Some consider emoticons and ASCII art, like smiley faces, to be Leet, while others maintain that Leet consists of only symbolic word encryption. More obscure forms of Leet, involving the use of symbol combinations and almost no letters or numbers, continue to be used for its original purpose of encrypted communication. It is also sometimes used as a script language.[5]

  15. Resolved Question: Can an employer make you pay for your mistakes?
  16. 7 Jan 2008 at 10:29pm
I asked this same question a while back, and got very mixed responses. I work in a restaurant, and the owner refuses to buy a computer system. The method we currently use is to write the tickets by hand and turn them in to the kitchen, then add the total of all of the items by hand. The whole system leaves a lot of room for human error, and no opportunity to remedy the problem before it is too late. If a mistake is made and the customer is undercharged, the management will circle the mistake, write the amount of the discrepency in large handwriting, and post the ticket on a bulletin board for all to see. If you do not pay the ticket, the money is usually taken out of your paycheck. This "rule" was never discussed with the employees before it was put into effect and it just doesn't seem ethical to me. I checked the DOL website, but didn't really find any helpful information. Can anyone tell me (with absolute certainty) if this is legal? I will not pay until I know! Thanks The computer will cut down on mistakes, not get rid of them completely. If you ring an order into a computer system, the kitchen will only make what you ring in, so if you forget something, you will know it before the customer pays. jeeper...not hard to add when you are not busy. Humans make mistakes, which is my point. Sometimes you don't catch something even when you double check. This is especially true when working 10 table sections with no busser, floater, cashier, or any other assisstance.

  37. Resolved Question: Church bloopers?
  38. 18 Oct 2007 at 1:29pm
The following are actual church bulletin board bloopers found in churches across the United States. 11. "Next Sunday Mrs. Vinson will be soloist for the morning service. The pastor will then speak on 'It's a Terrible Experience'." 12. "Due to the Rector's illness, Wednesday's healing services will be discontinued until further notice." 13. "Weight Watchers will meet at 7 PM. Please use large double door at the side entrance." 14. "Remember in prayer the many who are sick of our church and community." 15. "The eighth graders will be presenting Shakespeare's Hamlet in the church basement on Friday at 7 PM. The congregation is invited to attend this tragedy." 16. On a church bulletin during the minister's illness: "God is good - Dr. Hargreaves is better." 17. A new loudspeaker system has been installed in the church. It was given by one of our members in honor of his wife.

NCAE results show DepEd?s inability to address education crisis We express our disappointment not only on the results of the recent National Career Assessment Exam (NCAE), but also on the attitude the Department of Education towards the result. It is an irony for us that the Department of Education seems happy and satisfied of the results, instead of showing dismay and regret in its recent statements. It even applauds the results and pats its shoulder for doing a job well done in creating voc-tech skilled students with low scholastic capability. We find the Department of Education?s effort to discourage students to go to teriary education odd if not deplorable. Instead of vowing to improve the quality of basic and secondary education to make sure that the students become prepared for whatever path they would want to take in life, the DepEd imposes upon the students to ?appreciate alternatives to the college diploma? and take the voc-tech path. It is not the government and the DepEd?s job to dictate to us what jobs or career paths to take based on a simple exam result. Rather, the DepEd should provide our students, through basic and secondary education, the basic knowledge and skills to prepare them for whatever life choices they would like to take. The Department may even be considered violating important provisions of Batas Pambansa 232, stating that no one should dare mess with students? rights to choose their college specification preferences. It is clear that this step is in blind adherence to recommendations of IMF-WB and ADB, that our role in the global market is to provide ?cheap semi-skilled laborers.? Given the record of this government in its puppetry and blind worship of foreign, pro-globalization dictates, we will not be surprised if the exam results were twisted and/or tampered to support these recommendations. The students, with the support of our teachers, school administration, and parents, will strongly oppose the proposal to make the NCAE mandatory. We are confident that the sentiments of most parents, teachers and high school students nationwide are with us. There is indeed a ?job mismatch,? when a government department which is supposed to provide us with quality education, chooses to play the role of Madam Auring and predicts for us that it is for us to quit college studies for we might miserably fail. We ask the DepEd, when we allot very little budget for education, when we allow textbooks to be riddled with errors, when we allow oversized classrooms and underpaid teachers to be a norm in our education system, whose fault is it in the first place? NCAE is similar to America's SAT. Dep Ed is the Phillipine's govt education department. They now will require this for college entrance .

amazingfacts.org Don't Colossians 2:14-17 and Ephesians 2:15 teach that God's law ended at the cross? Ephesians 2:15 No, these passages both refer to the law containing "ordinances," or Moses' law, which was a ceremonial law governing the sacrificial system and the priesthood. All of this ceremony and ritual foreshadowed the cross and ended at Christ's death, as God had intended. Moses' law was added till the "seed should come," and that "seed ... is Christ." Galatians 3:19, 16. God's law could not be involved here, for Paul spoke of it as holy, just, and good many years after the cross (Romans 7:7, 12).Doesn't 2 Corinthians 3:7 teach that the law written and engraved in stone "was to be done away"? 2 Corinthians 3:7 No. The passage says that the "glory" of Moses' ministration of the law was to be done away, but not the law. Read the whole passage of 2 Corinthians 3:3-9 again, carefully. The subject is not the doing away with the law or its establishment, but rather, the change of the location of the law from "tables of stone" to the "tables of the heart." Under Moses' ministration the law was on stones. Under the Holy Spirit's ministration, through Christ, the law is written upon the heart (Hebrews 8:10). A rule posted on a school bulletin board becomes effective only when it enters a student's heart. Christ's ministration of the law is effective because He transfers the law to the heart of the Christian. Then keeping the law becomes a delight and a joyful way of living because the Christian has true love for both God and man.Romans 10:4 says that "Christ is the end of the law." So it has ended, hasn't it? Romans 10:4 "End" in this verse means purpose or object, as it does in James 5:11. The meaning is clear. To lead men to Christ--where they find righteousness--is the goal, purpose, or end of the law.Why worry about the law? Isn't conscience a safe guide? Proverbs 14:12 No! A thousand times, no! The Bible speaks of an evil conscience, a defiled conscience, and a seared conscience--none of which is safe. "There is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death." Proverbs 14:12. God says, "He that trusteth in his own heart is a fool." Proverbs 28:26.

Wall Street is surely the more road note of Manhattan (perhaps in the whole New York) and is undoubtedly one of the most famous itineraries in the whole United States of America. His/her century-old fame is tied up to double thread with the world of the purse and the economy, so much that today Wall Street has become some whole American financial apparatus synonymous. The New York Stock Exchange (abbr. NYSE) - that you/he/she has had the first house really in Wall Street - the greatest purse is not alone to the world, but it represents one of the principal poles of the global economy. If what I dictate it is known to the majority of the people, not everybody perhaps knows that her "road of the wall" according to the principal tradition it owes not his/her own episodes name really pacific. During Six hundred, in fact, Wall Street coincided with the northern border in New Amsterdam: to that epoch the "wall" it was not then still a real wall and the threshold of the Dutch possessions it was above all a sort of fence. The wall was subsequently strengthened for defending the European establishment from the attack of various Indian tribes and then, accomplice the increase of the tension with the English competitors, around halves Six hundred the paling became a wall that you/he/she would have reached more or less today the floor of the first floor of the modern buildings of the road. Obviously, for his/her construction, you/they were used for him/it more than the African slaves. The "wall" crowds up to the end of the century (1699), when they were really the English to demolish him/it: what didn't succeed in demolishing, nevertheless, it was really the reputation that surrounded the zone notoriety that is extended in the centuries up to the new millennium. In reality, when the episodes happened just remembered, Wall Street was the road of the "wall" only for its inhabitants, but it was not still the Wall Street symbol of the American financial markets for the rest of the world. The imposing advent of the money on the eyelash of the road is to refer to a few decades later, when the road in Manhattan became the principal artery of the commercial environment of the city. Toward the end of the Seven hundred one on the edge of the same street the dealers' association newyorkesi was born, that would have brought well soon the Exchange in New York to the birth in the New York Stock Exchange. Formally the Exchange newyorkese (New York Stock and Exchange Board) is born March 8th 1817, in a building to the number 40 of Wall Street, with president Anthony Stockholm. In reality that first form organizational stock-exchange other was not that a sort of closed box, in which the possibility of the negotiation of the titles was fruit of a procedure of access that involved the already present members. From this episode it also has origin one of the more important financial newspapers of the world, the "Wall Street Journal," what it is born as informative bulletin for the associates of the organization of the commerce. Wall Street became well soon the center of all the financial attractions of the city, and different financial institutions took center in the old road of the wall. Different they are also the sad episodes that increased the fame of Wall Street during the Nine hundred. You/they can be remembered, on everybody, two events of the first halves the century. It is the 16 September of 1920 when, after a letter of warning, a device is made to explode in front of the number 23 of Wall Street, center of J.P. Morgan, provoking 38 corpses and hurting over 300 people; the history attributed to some anarchic groups the attack, although is never made things clear on the guilty Royal of the crime. Different they were also the meanings connected to the event: the bomb was made in fact to explode really in front of the center of the society of the most famous banker, that John Pierpont Morgan, dead as soon as seven years before in Rome, mind of some of the most important societies of the sector already from the second halves the eight hundred (he remembers, for instance, the operation that brought to the birth of U.S. Steel). To JP Morgan the creation of the General Electric ("give ashes" societarie of Edison General Electric and Thompson. Houson Electric Company) is owed besides, besides the support to the birth of some among the most important firms of the epoch. Nine years later, in 1929, the name of Wall Street ties him instead to the great crisis that strikes the stock market of the Country, and to the serious depression that immediately followed. To remember it is also the 1987 stock-exchange crack. The 19 October of that year, rechristened "black Monday", the index Dow Jones Industrial Average went down of over 22%, a recorded loss never during the whole century and provoked by a sudden wave of sales. The 1987 collapse also had evident repercussions on the European and Asian purses: nevertheless it was avoided (accomplice above all the action of the Central Banks) that such fold could have disastrous counterblows for the world financial system as during the depression been born by the collapse of the '29. From the end of the eight hundred to today Wall Street you/he/she has become so important that its name is symbol of important business, it is synonymous of the financial markets of the nation and it is also word ricollegabile to the American financial institutions. The testimony of its great growth is also in the numbers. In 1800 the present companies to the NYSE were only 295, and of these solo 20 publicly had the negotiable titles. In 1900 the biggest rated firm was the U.S. Steel (behind which were the operations financed by J.P. Morgan), but other firms quickly grew also: AT&T, Kellogg, Gamble, Eastman Kodak, Westinghouse. Today besides the evolution in the New York Stock Exchange, to Wall Street it is present also another principal stock exchange, the National Association of Securities Dealers Automated Quotation, better known with the name of NASDAQ, founded to Wall Street in 1971 and climbed to the footlights of the chronicle especially in the last years, besides following the burst of the bead of the "new economy." Today it is still possible to observe as the biggest firms of the sector has not his/her own center away from Wall Street, and however in the outskirts in Manhattan, although recently he is verifying a tendency to the move in the other zones of the city. Beyond his/her architecture and of his/her own geographical removal, mostly what counts in Wall Street it is what her "road of the wall" it represents, or rather the environment economic financial U.S. citizen for excellence, sign of the capitalistic economic system and the beloved-hated one "god money."

  53. Resolved Question: Good Online Resources for Autism?
  54. 4 Jun 2007 at 5:50pm
Without getting into the backstory - does anyone have links to forums, bulletin boards, or other online support systems for parents of autistic children that they like? I could really use some! :) Edit: I've done Google Searches, and I am capable of finding some myself - but I was hoping I could get recommendations for sites/forums that people visit often. :) Thanks for the online resources - they're great articles and informational sites to read. Specifically, though, I'm looking for a _forum_ style site where I can interact online with other parents of autistic children. Anyone have a favorite forum they could recommend?

  59. Resolved Question: unhandled exception occurred????
  60. 20 Apr 2007 at 8:57pm
I have a home-based business as a Slumber Parties consultant, have had no issues getting on the distributor part of the website - except since Sunday I can't get on our chat or bulletin board sections. The screen below is what comes up. Have contacted tech support from Slumber Parties, they told me to delete cookies, put slumberparties in my trusted sites, and have the internet check for a new page every time I visit. None of it worked, I'm getting REALLY frustrated! Everything else seems in working order on my system. Server Error in '/instantforum34' Application. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Object reference not set to an instance of an object. Like I said, i can log on to other areas of the site, but when I go to these 2 I get this error. Tech support says it is something i have done or a change in my computer, which makes no sense, as it says "server error" - sounds like it should be on their end, but tech support used my userid and password and logged on ok. What programs on my harddrive may have caused this sudden problem? PS Using WinXP, IE6.0

  63. Resolved Question: How should they be punished?
  64. 20 Mar 2007 at 5:43pm
Two college students entered a local telephone company's computer system without being asked for a password. One copied a confidential memo and posted it on a bulletin board for users to read. Another inserted a worm to slow down the computer system. Because of a mistake made in creating the worm, the system crashed and disrupted businesses. Local telephone service was suspended in the area for more than 8 hours. How should they be punished?

  65. Resolved Question: Whining noise at 30 and 60 mph - '98 Chrysler Sebring?
  66. 19 Mar 2007 at 1:29pm
When I do about 30 to 35 mph, I hear a low pitched whining noise, that stops around 37 mph and then up around 60 it comes back just at a higher pitch, goes away at about 65 mph. I asked the last owner who said it had done so for a LONG time and started a few years after they bought it new. I've read on many bulletin boards that this is common but nobody seems to have a straight up answer on what it is. I also rode along with a friend of mine in his '02 Stratus sedan. His also did the same thing, just a little quieter. Good thing the sound system is good - I just crank it up and drown out the whining :-) Any clues on what this may be?

  67. Resolved Question: Are you enjoying the ride called the 9th Circuit Court of ...
  68. 10 Mar 2007 at 1:32pm
"A ruling from the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals has concluded that municipal employers have the right to censor the words "natural family," "marriage" and "family values" because that is hate speech and could scare workers. " Two city workers posted a notice on a city office bulletin: "Good News Employee Associations is a forum for people of Faith to express their views on the contemporary issues of the day. With respect for the Natural Family, Marriage and Family values..." They posted the notice after homosexual groups used the city's e-mail, bulletin board, and written communications systems for promoting their views, including attacks on the bible and people of faith. Don't you think that if the homosexual groups have the right to promote their viewpoints, the same right should be extended to the religious, family oriented? Isn't the right of free speech for all Americans? For the full article: http://wnd.com/news/article.asp?ARTICLE_ID=54587 It should be noted that the city has done nothing to discipline the other groups using the city's communication systems to put forth their political views. "In fact, one city official even used the e-mail system to declare the Bible 'needs updating,' but no actions were taken against those individuals. " Fine with taking action againt personal/political action on any of the city's communications systems, but it should be taken against all perpetrators, not just those of a specific point of view.

  71. Resolved Question: China forums/chinese penpals?
  72. 14 Feb 2007 at 3:12am
I'm a college student in the US who's been in contact with people from the middle east, specifically in Iraq, through the use of a forum (bulletin board) system. It's been a rewarding experience, and I was wondering if there was a forum like that for china, written in english, especially if its geared towards chinese college students. I am just looking to contact people my age in china, and talk with them. Anyone help me out?

  73. Voting Question: Post-It Note Studiers: your assistance please?
  74. 13 Feb 2007 at 3:50pm
I'm a study fanatic, so, ordinarily, I don't mind at all when professors assign lots of reading. Incidentally, I have a boundless supply of assorted sticky posts I thought I'd need, but no system. I usually annotate my textbooks or take additional notes on legal pads, but I'd like to make use of the stickies at some point. I use the smaller ones for bookmarking, but the ruled 2x2 cubes are just way too small for any real annotating and much too large for simple bookmarking (the smaller ones can handle that). What should I do with them? I need to get rid of them or something, but I don't want to just throw them away or post them all around the house. I make good enough use of them in my day planner and bulletin board, but I don't need them that often. Do you research/study/notetake using sticky note pads. What system do you use?

  75. Voting Question: Is there a Website bulletin board service that includes upda...
  76. 10 Feb 2007 at 11:00am
I want to have a bulletin board system for messages on my website, but I don't want to have to hassle with the updates for the software (like with phpBB or vBulletin). Is there a service that provides the bulletin board for your website and does the update part of things for you? I'm not looking for free -- I want a quality service I can integrate into my site. (No ads. I'll pay for the service.) I do plenty of coding myself -- just don't want to be hassled with the updates like what I saw with phpBB.

  77. Resolved Question: Creating an interactive math bulletin board?
  78. 21 Jan 2007 at 2:10pm
I need to create an interactive math bulletin board for my classroom. We're doing measurements and I need something that will give them practice converting within the English and Metric systems, as well as between the two systems. We don't have a lot of display room, so I need something simple but something that will also get the idea across. Any ideas? (5th grade, lower level math classroom)

  79. Resolved Question: Shouldn't Yahoo Answers be used for serious, stimulating q...
  80. 13 Jan 2007 at 11:15pm
I think too many trivial questions and answers on this bulletin board are a waste of time and clog the system. This site should be used as a depository of meaningful information and debate among the world. Should those with simplistic, annoying questions, and those that want instant answers from the world, be using chat rooms instead? If you agree, I encourage you to use your opportunities to rate down and rate as abuse appropriately.

  81. Resolved Question: Where can I conduct online surveys and reach large audiences?
  82. 7 Dec 2006 at 5:42pm
I'm looking for a website where I'm able to create a short survey regarding bulletin board systems. I want a site that is either very cheap, or (preferably) free, that sends the survey out to large audiences (preferably targeted). I've seen many sites to TAKE surveys, but I haven't been able to find one to register them.

  83. Resolved Question: How do you remove the brittney virus?
  84. 1 Dec 2006 at 3:24pm
Went to one of my bulletin boards this A.M. and without thinking I opened up the post only to find a virus. It appears to be worded as brittneystuffporn (?) My Norton and Webroot don't seem to be doing there job on this one. I've run them both numerous times. Each time they quarantine something but not everything. I'm getting redirected off my home page to a MALWAREWIPE site. I'm also getting a flashing yellow triangle with an exclamtion point - system alert: Trojan-spyware.win32@mx. Is this a warning from my computer or is someone trying to redirect me? I'm not super computer literate so if you respond, make it simple. Thank you. The page I am being directed to read Internet Security.

  85. Resolved Question: What is the best and most popular Bulletin Board System ?

What is the popular BBS (Bulletin Board System) very popular like yahoo website or less ?

  87. Resolved Question: Do you think Yahoo! Answers is better or worse than a bull...
  88. 24 Oct 2006 at 7:46pm
For actually getting clear answers, that is. I think the point system drives people to answer questions they know nothing about, but also the format prevents flaming and tangents. What do you think?

  89. Resolved Question: Why do you people try to get more points on Y/A?
  90. 9 Oct 2006 at 11:45am
What is bad about having five points taken away? Isn't this point system a lot like getting stars stuck by your name on a poster hanging on the bulletin board in kindergarten. It is a method of control based on a pretend symbolic sytem with no concrete value that is bought into by the group of children, right? So those of you interested in the point system are just pretending it has some real value, correct? Why worry about it? It is not really needed is it? Are we past kindergarten or not?
