I get a DirectX 9 error when trying to play the Free Time expansion.. I have looked around the net, which led me to running the DirectDraw and Direct3D tests, and upgrading my DirectX. The tests ran fine and so did in installation however it did not fix my problem. The last thing to do is upgrade my computer. Here's my current specs: Card name: NVIDIA GeForce4 MX 4000 Manufacturer: NVIDIA Chip type: GeForce4 MX 4000 Processor: Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 CPU 3.00GHz (2 CPUs) Memory: 1024MB RAM DAC type: Integrated RAMDAC Display Memory: 128.0 MB Do you think it would be necessary upgrade my ram as well? How much would it cost roughly for 2Gb ram. What graphics card should i upgrade to? I dont want something that will set me back alot, i only want to play the sims when i have nothing else to do. Every single time i click disk cleanup, it goes like 3 bars, then the computer restarts itself. When i'm playing City of Heroes, the game locks up in less than 10 minutes, i can just be standing there doing nothing, and it still crashes. The same with crappy little, non-graphic heavy flash games, the whole computer just locks up. It's locking up watching videos also. Now at first i thought it was the graphics card. I had an ATI Radeon 9550.. I just installed a GeForce 5200 card, which, should be compatible with City of Heroes.. but still, 10 minutes in, it locks up. I have no idea what's going on or how to fix it. All drivers on this thing are up to date, I've run every scan possible, with no luck. There was a fan unplugged inside the computer, so i thought it might be a heat issue, but the fan has since been plugged in, the side of the case left off, and another fan outside aiming at it. so it's not a heat issue. I dunno what to do here. It's weird. it only locks up when it's playing a video, a flash game, or a something like city of heroes. and just recently, any program that scans the computer for errors. I thought it was just the disk cleanup, now it's things like RegistryFix, and only at certain points in the scan. The scan, before it locks up, is picking up plenty of errors, but getting to the point where i can remove them is becoming impossible. The geforce drivers are all up to date, as well as everything else. I really can't figure this out. It's really just outta the blue, over the past month or so, it's just gradually gotten worse.

I downloaded a sims 2 free time game for the pc and it downloaded without any problems. But when ever i click on the download short cut or anywhere else it would bring a pop up that would say "failed to find any directX 9.0c compatible graphics adapters in this system! Please make sure you have a directX 9.0 compatible graphics adapter and have installed the latest drivers provided by the manufacturer. The application will now terminate." it says that exactly and i have no clue what it means. I already have the latest DirectX 9.0c for 2008. I have the game Sims 2 FreeTime for the computer please help me with my problem!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have enough memory on my computer to run the sims fine - the graphics are great, it loads well and everything... until it gets into the lots. When it gets to the lots if lags behind and pauses a lot, and it goes pretty slow. I have custom content & I have the sims 2, nightlife, open for business, pets, and family fun stuff. without deleting anything, can I make it stop doing that? I also have these cards you stick into the computer to give it more memory/ram or whatever (idk what they're called) but I dont know if they'll work with my computer. How would I find that out?

When installed the game all was ok, but then after a few seconds of being online i was disconected - message: You have been disconnected from GameSpy. You may have logged in on another computer. I learnt that it may be because of the connection settings and the time out and keep active options. they were origonaly set to 0.00 and now are -8746279859.00. so i reset it to 1000000.00 it work for a bit and did it again. now it wont work at all! - what should i do to fix it? - by the way my computer is good enough for the game, my graphics card is good enough and the internet connection is fast enough.

just installed a nvidia graphics card, opened the cd drive and put the cd in. now when i go to my computer, i dont see my cd rom list. prior to this, i heard a snap when i tried to put my video card in but yet my cd drive has power and can open and close. how do i do that ? i heard a snap sound when i put my video card in.

I need a compatible graphics driver for a computer. Its a D315 Desktop PC, I need to get a graphics driver that can fix it i've tried lots but still its the same nothing is changing I forgot my old driver that i used. Don't tell me to go to compaq website or anything because i've tried that and i just want a link for a compatible graphics driver for my computer. I tried getting rid of the virus with virus things but didn't work so I decided to reinstall Windows XP and after installing it some of the drivers was gone so I tried getting it back and some of them I got and all is left is the VGA Compatible. Yes I saw a driver in the compaq site with the same model and things and I downloaded it and restarted it then nothing happened, so I went to update the driver and it said couldn't find a necessary driver that could update it. So there you have it all the info about it. I want free ones by the way not the ones you pay with because I pay for it and it might not work.

ok here is the story i just bought counter strike for 20 bucks through steam (after being screwed by another game i thought i could trust steam) and i started the game after downloading and played 1 game. i left for about an hour and returned. i started the game and it opens and starts to load. then out of nowhere a blue screen pops up for about 1 second (i cant read it) and it restarts my computer whats wrong!!!!!! i have done research and hear stuff about overheating and graphics drivers and stuff. i know it cant be that. when my comp does start up again, i get the option to send an error report, in the details i found the file, and i did find the file its a minidmp .......... i dont understand a lot of computer talk i need simple ameture help to fix this problem, (i am having trouble contacting steam support) comp details: 1.86gh processer 512 mb ram nvidia geforce go 6400 (counter strike ran great) directx 9 ask for more details no more room....

Ok I'm looking to build a computer you might have seen my last two questions checking my setup. Here's the link to the wishlist on newegg that has my setup if you're interested or have comments. Okay, so I bought this dell. I had another computer which was a compaq, and the motherboard fried. And the game wouldnt play because it didnt have enough graphics memory. And on battlefield 2, when you insert the disc to play, theres a test to see if your computer will run and it says video memory and everything works. But it says my OS FAILED. I'm not sure if theres a patch I can download so it will play on vista or not. I checked battlefield 2's website and I couldnt download any of the patches to see if any would allow me to play. Now im stuck and dont know what to do! I really want to play!!!!!! first of all, here are my system specs: OS:Windows Vista. Processor: two at 2.6Ghz (each?) memory: 2GB and 371GB of hard drive space left AFTER i installed Halo2. PC:Hp Pavillion slimline s3300f graphics card:NVIDIA GeForce 6150SE nForce 430 also bought Halo1 a while ago and am having troubles with that running smoothly too, despite my computer obviously having much better specs than on the box. i've used the lowest settings possible on ALL paramaters in the games, and had to disable visual themes, desktop composition, and display scaling from the "compatibilities" menu just to get it running smoothly enough so it's actually POSSIBLE to play, and it STILL lags when, for example, i'm shooting needles out of two needlers that i'm double-wielding. so here's my question....how can i get the game to run smoothly? is it a special setting on my computer to let a game use all of its processor power? is it something else that i don't know? I want to either build a computer or upgrade my Emachines T2892 with more Ram a larger hardrive and a newer graphics card. I dont want to buy through the Emachines vendor because they charge about $15-$40 more than another place I could get the hardware, the problem is I'm not sure Exactly what I need to get, such as Kingston ram 1gb pc2700 etc... I am not "very" good with computer equipment just slightly understanding so I need some help or a website that could halp me with this problem. Further more my specs are: Desktop 2004, winxp sp2, 2800+ AMD Athlonxp processor, Nvidia GeForce 4 MX graphics card (poor one at stock) 512mb ram with 2 slot modules for a max of 2gb ram. I would want to know the complete specs of the ram my desktop can be compatible with and the hardrive and graphics card, so any help would be greatly appreciated. If anyone believes I would be better off learning to build one or have a good idea of where to get exactly what I want please tell me. This will be used for gaming mostly I think I should then try to build one instead of upgrading,could I build a good or decent computer with $600 to spend? There is a black border on both sides of my monitor, now, after I "upgraded" my graphics driver. When I restarted my computer and noticed these changes, I uninstalled the driver, but they were still there. Now I can't seem to get rid of them. I can still see the entire screen and the entire web browser, but the borders on the sides of them. How can I get rid of this? *This is a Windows XP Desktop computer

I'm gonna be building a custom desktop computer stystem! Its all gonna be from scratch so i need all new items. Like motherboard, processors, hard drives ect... OH and with Custom case! with LED blue lights. I have no spending liment sooooo! I dont know awhole lot about computer hardware so if you could like give me a FULL LIST of everything i would need for the computer to function right from motherboard down to video cards and whatever else i would need. (ex: when you have a "my computer" window up the "my computer" at the top of that window will disappear or that entire blue line will. think of that except large scale (ex: icons, start button, words in "error" messages) Now this usaually happens when I'm playing a high-end game or i have a lot of internet explorers up with a lot of tabs (game walkthroughs, game maps, etc is the usual for that many web pages) ok here's comp stats Graphics card: ATI Radeon X1300 Pro Ram: 1 GB Proccessor: Pentium D 2.8 GHz Computer Model:Gateway GT5016H OS: XP Media Center Watt: 300 (I think) I thought it would be either a ram problem or a video card problem. It's not a virus because it happened a couple times before and after i reinstalled my OS. so if you need more info i will try to be on but i will be gone until tomorrow night from any internet connection. Any help would be nice. please and thank you.. actually it will exit mid game and i'd come to the desktop with an error window that is mostly cut off and various other things disappearing.

I have an NVIDIA GeForce Go 6150, and have been getting some errors with it lately. To help fix this I need to uninstall and reinstall it. Now since I'm inept and challenged when it comes to computers I'm hoping for step by step instructions and links to w/e I may need to download. If you want to look at my errors then look at my other question, "Vista Run DLL Error" So i tried that and the only part that worked was uninstalling my graphics card..........what now? lol ("First download the latest driver from http://www.nvidia.com/object/winvista_x8... Now Search for Device Manager and open it. Click on Hardware and Display,you will see your Go 6150 , RIGHT click the 6150 and click uninstall. Now go to the driver you just downloaded and run it. Congratulations you have done it") My bad I forgot to restart my computer to re-detect the graphics card. After I re-detected it, it worked fine. Thanks for the help.

I have been looking in shops at Mac computers. I was wondering if i should get one, I already have an xp computer and i love playing games such as battlefield 2142. I saw that Mac?s also play battlefield, but I wasn't sure which ones in the shop would play the game. Battlefield on xp runs very slow and only on low graphics settings and is now freezing like crazy. I was told most of them will play that game, but i was wondering how well they play games, and what settings will it play battlefield on?

hey guys, just yesterday i got my 9600 GT and put it in its pci spot everything was good till i booted up (btw i had an ati x1650 before this and yes i fully removed all ati software, drivers, registry values. now...i turn the computer on...the acer logo flashes on the screen then the computer colour goes from yellow to orange (standby). i am using a converter for the graphics card so that the monitor cord can plug into the graphics card. i can run the computer with everything working when im using no graphics card, just the intel graphics acelerator. some people have told me to change the BIOS settings but i have no idea how 2. if anyone could explain this to me or show me links on how to do it on an acer computer T690. If this is any help, my computer loads completely, even though there is no display. all cords are connected the right way and yea. thats all the detail i can give you really. thanks 4 any help, it would be a shame to not be able to use such a great card :D cheers :D:D i have a 230 watt psu i think, not sure it came with the acer t690, i am going 2 get a new PSU shortly

Hi! ummm i have a Via/S3g Unichrome Pro Igp graphic cards and i want to upgrade it so i can play games in opengl because i always play software mode....and i want a Nvidia Geforce Grahpics card but i don't know what my computer can handle?! can anyone help me?! I want the best laptop I can possibly buy for under $1200 I am willing to consider a macbook, but I have been tempted to buy HP. I have an ok dell laptop, I bought it on a buget, got what I paid for. I want to avoid compaq (had a very bad experience,13 month old computer, clip gave way, system overheated and began smoking), I have had three HP computers (I know HP owns compaq) and have been pleased with all of them. I want the best performance, battery life, reliability, functionality, and ease of use that I can buy on my buget. I have never used a mac before, but the $1300 macbook fits all of the specs I want, is mac OS similar to Windows? Is there a better value? can I get better performance on my buget? I want core 2 duo 2.2Ghz or better (or AMD equivalent) at least 2GB of RAM, Nvidia graphics (8400 or better), glossy screen any size, A,BGN wireless and bluetooth, and decent battery life (minimum 2 hours, 3 or better is prefered)

I have a relatively slow computer, and I don't know what is wrong with it. I have googled things, but what I came up with is graphics cards. Could my graphics card be to slow? I also found out that graphics cards can be really expensive... So here are my questions: 1. How can I make my computer run faster? (Note: I am trying to play games on it. Game's like halo, project64, etc.) 2. If it's a problem with my graphics card, is there any way to get a new one for free? (Note: I have run an update on my graphics card, and I have the latest version) Please take note before you answer that I am only thirteen years old, and I really don't know much about really high tech stuff. Edit: Miniamph... How can I get more? Kryiabuf(w/e)... I just did a search, cleaned stuff up, it's no faster... there was no virus. Mini... What is "Fry's"??? Rob B... I don't know the awnser to any of those questions... I don't know how to check. But I do use AVG... It came with my computer... HOW DO I GET MORE RAM!?!?! oh... um...... no, it never ran faster... I don't know what "Ram" is (I do know what it stands for though....) but what I do know is that my computer came with.. about... 9gb of memory in total. And then windows took up a lot of that... So now I have about 1gb left on my c disk.

I already have a 64mb graphics card, so should I replace it or just add the other 256mb card, and does that mean I would have 320mb graphics or does it mean only one card will run at a time? I just don't want to order the damn thing and find that it's the wrong one. I checked out the specifications tab, what the hell is RAMDAC?

My computer's internal graphics stuff is too basic. I don't know about these things, so I bought an AGP card without realizing that my computer doesn't have an AGP slot. Any suggestions? Something not much more than $50 would be great, I don't need anything really high-level. Thanks.
