  4. 16 Feb 2008 at 9:05pm
I'm currently a senior in high school and shopping for a computer for college. I really want to build my own desktop computer, instead of buying a laptop like everyone else, but I've been told that absolutely NO ONE in college has a desktop. I don't want to be the odd one out, but I also want to get a good, durable computer that won't have power problems or get stolen or damaged easily. I'm going to be majoring in Computer Science, so this is a big deal for me. Do college students really only have laptops, and would I stand out with a desktop?

  5. Resolved Question: Should I skip a grade, or take even more advanced courses?
  6. 16 Feb 2008 at 8:38pm
Currently I am 15, and I will be 16 in march. I am a freshman in high school, and people think I got held back or I failed. It irritates me so much that it wasn't my fault, and it some how worked out like that when I came to usa in 2nd grade. Now as I said I am in ninth grade, I plan to take summer school in all four years in order to get ahead, but that is for science and math. If I don't skip a grade my schedule will be with 4 AP sciences, upto Mulivariable calculus, and so on. But if I take summer classes for history and Engish, then I can goto 12th grade instead of 11th at the end of my sophmore year, and still have 2 AP sciences, be in BC calculus, and so on. What is better for me, take history and english classes over the summers and graduate in 11th grade, or take even more science, math, computer science classes and graduate when I am 19?

  7. Resolved Question: What's a good major for me, (computer-related)?
  8. 16 Feb 2008 at 8:06pm
I'm 14 right now, and computers interest me, I play computer games sometime there and on, and to the point where it's become like a drug. But i stopped for a while, and now i'm working on mastering a rubiks cube in a short amount of time. My best time to solve a 3x3x3 rubik's cube is 21.51 seconds. But still, it makes me wonder, what field in computers am i going to fall in? Can someone explain whats the difference between a Computer engineer, science, and programmer and what they do and what each skill requires? I'm usually a type of person who likes to fix and design, but i also like to put science into it in a sort of way. But if you ask me what i like to do with computers in 5 seconds, i would say "create and design the best" so whats for me?

  23. Resolved Question: What optional course should I take for grade 10?
  24. 16 Feb 2008 at 11:43am
My parents don't want me taking "dance" because it isn't as important as taking "environmental concerns", "business", or something like "computer sciences". This is because I would like to become a doctor after highschool and taking dance isn't very important in that field. Another course is offered, called "Health Care and Services Technology" which is about medical technology used. I know I would greatly enjoy dance but my parents want me to take more of an academic subject. I have 2 optional courses, one of which will be French but what should my other one be? Is grade 10 really that imporant that I should strictly take career-related courses? Thanks for your help and opinion!

  29. Resolved Question: diagnosis.............?
  30. 16 Feb 2008 at 10:04am
One day, Pete complained to his friend, "My elbow really hurts. I guess I should see a doctor." His friend said, "Don't do that. There's a computer at the drug store that can diagnose anything quicker and cheaper than a doctor. Simply put in a sample of your urine, and the computer will diagnose your problem and tell you what you can do about and it will only costs you $10.00." Pete figured he had nothing to lose, so he filled a jar with a urine sample and went to the drug store. Finding the computer, he poured in the sample and deposited the $10.00. The computer started making some noise and various lights started flashing. After a brief pause, out popped a small slip of paper which read: 1. You have tennis elbow. 2. Soak your arm in warm water, avoid heavy labor. 3. It will be better in two weeks....... That evening while thinking how amazing this new technology was and how it would change medical science forever, he began to wonder if this computer could be fooled. He decided to give it a try. He mixed together some tap water, a stool sample from his dog, and urine samples from his wife and daughter. To top it off, he masturbated into the concoction. He went back to the drug store, located the computer, poured in the sample and deposited the $10.00. The machine again made the usual noises, flashed its alights, and printed out the following analysis: 1. Your tap water is too hard. 2. Get a water softener. 3. Your dog has ringworm. 4. Bathe him with anti-fungal shampoo. 5. Your daughter is using cocaine. 6. Put her in a rehabilitation clinic. 7. Your wife is pregnant ....... twin girls. They aren't yours. Get a lawyer. 8. And if you don't stop masturbating, your elbow will never get better

Ok, Im a tenth grader going to an IB school. I wish to major in computer engineering/science. I do not do well on tests because they are time orientented and I have a writing OCD. thats besides the point. I have made 2 successful websites, One for my school and the other for a store. I am in a program called Mouse Squad (since the 7th grade) and I am going to work at an internship job this summer. I am very intelligent with computers, working with them since I was about 10. I have built my very own PC and I troubleshoot computer problems at school. My only problem is colleges have not even sent me one letter yet other students are already receiving theirs. When I do apply to a school are grades the only thing they look at? I want to apply to MIT but I fear I have no chance. I have never failed a course in my life and I am currently taking chemistry and I am almost finished with it. I have also taken Biology and Physics. What should I do? Please Someone help me. Thank you in advance! Ahhhh thank you for your quick response, your right. I took the PSAT but forgot to check that box that said to make my scores visible. What do I do now?

  66. 15 Feb 2008 at 3:06pm
I'm trying to get some experience in the computer or internet technology field. I am going to school for my Associates of Science in Computer Forensics online currently. I already have my B.A. in Psychology and I work in health care. I need some extra money and was wondering if there was any job that anyone knows of where you can work part time, working with computers, but have no formal experience. I am willing to learn, but I HAVE to keep my current job. I live in Alabama, but if anybody knows of anything ONLINE or close to the southern part of Alabama in the IT field that someone could do to get some training and get paid would be greatly appreciated. Please don't tell me about something that is not legitimate or that you haven't tried yourself or know someone who has successfully attempted it. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Also if you know of anything full time working with computers that I could do with no experience, include that as well. LET ME CLARIFY: I don't want ideas of so called "home businesses". I want experience in the IT field, because that is what I want to do. I don't want all these replies on how to get rick quick. I can do without that. Thanks.

I don't want to spend 6 years working on a bachelor's at this time. I want to graduate at 27 with my degree. Do you think I should just pursue a degree in chemistry or computer science? If so, which one?

  71. Resolved Question: college -- where should i reasonably apply?
  72. 15 Feb 2008 at 1:26pm
i'm interested in california, boston, new york, chicago, & dc. my sats are reading 610 math 640 writing 790. i'll take them a few times, i know i can do a lot better in math. my gpa from 9th & 10th grade combined is a 3.86. 10th grade was a 3.9 something, all A's and A-'s except for a B+ in a half-year (equivalent) social studies course. 11th grade my first marking period gpa was a 4.21 and second mp was a 4.5 something. finals hurt it a little, but it's still over a 4.0. my classes this year are AP english lang., AP calc, AP physics, honors social studies, hnrs. chem, hrs. spanish, and then gym, cooking, and communications. B in english, B+ in physics, probably will get an A in calc. next year taking AP stat, AP calc bc, AP spanish, academic social studies and english, and no science (because i doubled up this year). then two photo classes, cooking, and gym. i'm interested in math and science. i'm considering something like a computer science or engineering major. i'm really interested in physics and astronomy though, so i'm thinking about a physics minor. not necessary though. i don't really have extracurriculars. if it's stretched, i do have some community service. and i do have a job. i'd really like something really competitive like UCLA, but i don't know if i have a shot. can someone give me a basic list of safety schools/good matches/reach schools. just off the top of your head? not really into small schools, either. and yeah, i've looked at ucsd and really was interested. thanks. although i'm not sure yet if it's smaller than my taste. any other suggestions? uc davis... i'd prefer something more competitive. and i'm definitely not looking for a school just for parties, as i'm really not a partier at all. i'm more interested in the other criteria schools have to offer. about the physics-- it's more of an interest thing. not really looking to make it my career. i know i'm not amazing at it, my AP physics class was the hardest class i've ever taken. but i sincerely have a very strong interest in the subject. career-wise, probably something more with computers. but if a school offers a physics minor, that's just be a big plus. to answer brad r-- i didn't really study.. like, i'm just really good at grammar. i find it really easy. there are only a couple of rules you need to know. like, you need to really be able to see subject-verb agreement. and parallelism. those are the big ones. and then just like, making sure sentences make sense and are clear. you've gotta pick the ones that are filled with useless phrases shoved in between commas.

  73. Resolved Question: Second Bachelor's degree or Master's degree?
  74. 15 Feb 2008 at 1:20pm
I have a B.S. in accounting but want to switch my career path to something IT related, so I want to eventually get a Master's degree in Computer Science. My previous GPA was 2.97. Should I get a second bachelor's degree in Computer Science and try to improve my GPA to get into a better graduate school later on or just go to whatever graduate school will accept me now.

  82. 15 Feb 2008 at 11:24am
I'm majoring in computer science, but I also like mathematics. The computer science program in my school practically makes you take a bunch of mathematics courses and I was wondering if majoring or minoring in mathematics benefits the computer science major in and kind of way. Is double majoring in both computer science and mathematics any ehlpful for finding a job after I graduate.

  84. 15 Feb 2008 at 11:17am
I was thinking about majoring in computer science and I worried about the job availability. Someone had told me that the computer industry was slowing down on jobs, but I found it hard to believe because every where you go all companies and industries have computers, so there has to be some jobs out there. I was just looking for advice as to what do because I am really ineterested in computers and I would like to work in the industry. I was also curious about salaries.

  91. Resolved Question: Office 2003!?
  92. 15 Feb 2008 at 8:23am
Office 2003? What would happen if I had been using Microsoft 2003 for quite a few years now. And last year I gave it to my boyfriend for him to use, and the product key worked and everything, and I seriously did not know it was illegal! And then, he got a new laptop and I let him use it again, while I still had it up and running on my PC. I took it off my PC and my boyfriends PC because I learned in my Computer Science class that this is pirating! What could happen to me? Serious answers only please.
