  2. 16 Feb 2008 at 8:07pm

  5. Voting Question: No TAX paid in UK and P46 now?
  6. 16 Feb 2008 at 8:04pm
I have worked in UK before and received around 9000 pounds last year but did not pay any tax. now I have found a new and better job which requires my tax details. I told them I dont have P45 so they took a P46 from me in which I had to tick option B which said that I had a previous job but this is my only job now. My worry is that when this form is receiced by the tax office and when they check against my NI number history it would be all blank. what are the proceedings and consequences in this case? please help? - when i started working i had Little knowledge about UK tax (I was an overseas student). I thought students didnt have to pay tax. and now it appears to me that i had to obtain a P45 etc. i dont wanto go to my previous employer now..its boring..unless it is absolutely required - Now that i have provided my NI number in P46, the tax office may see my NI history as blank. a)wat action do they take at this point? b)how would they come to know of my previous income which hasnt been taxed?

  13. Resolved Question: Doesn't this grind your balls?
  14. 16 Feb 2008 at 7:57pm
It really chaps my sphincter that when you're applying for a job, they want every piece of information about you, many times including your SSN, full employment history, addresses and phone numbers of references and more--all BEFORE you even get an interview. Why can't they obtain the specifics AFTER the interview? I just obtained my B.S. degree and often have invested 5+ hours tweaking my cover letter and filling out applications just for one position, then driving 7 hours in a blizzard for an interview....only to end up not getting the job. I think that is inexcusable and I should be compensated. I feel like qualified workers are being abused and treated like clowns for corporate entertainment because there is a surplus of them and such a shortage of jobs right now. P.S. I live in Michigan, so don't tell me to look at economic indicators and argue that there are tons of jobs. This is MI. We in the gutta fo' sho'. Not so much a question, more of a rant but I'm curious if anyone feels the same or if I'm being petty. OK Jose G, not everyone is an illegal immigrant that can get a construction job with no education. Don't be mad because I am intelligent. I thought maybe someone shared in my frustration in the job market. Apparently you all share in your sexual frustrations only. I hope you all lose your fast food jobs to f*ing Jerry's kids. Losers.

  20. 16 Feb 2008 at 7:54pm
What happens when you are recently over the heartache of an ex and you encounter them in a social situation? Assume there is no more heartache - but a certain something that is icky about accidentally coming across them and there is no way out. What do you do? How do you cover up what you feel? What do you say? How do you act? How can you retain dignity without becoming a nervous jittering wreck - if you have history with this person? What's the etiquette?

  29. Resolved Question: Question to Pro-Choicers?
  30. 16 Feb 2008 at 7:38pm
Hitler is responsible for approximately 40 million deaths during his reign of terror. Stalin is responsible for another 30 million deaths. Pol Pot, another 10-20 million deaths. Since abortion has been legalized, back in '71 or '72, I've read there is an average of 1.2 to 1.5 million abortions per year done in this country. That's roughly 42 million babies killed during that time span, 35 yrs. Why wouldn't future historians consider the United States as one of the most barbarous civilizations in the history of the world? The fetus IS a living being! Albeit a helpless one. Thus, it IS murder. If left alone, it will grow and in most cases, be born. I'm not saying you can't have sex, I'm asking why you and your partner can't be more carefull. I'm asking, why not put it up for adoption, millions of couples are looking to adopt. The irony here is that it is more than likely those aborted babies would have been voting Democrats, and George Bush would never have been President.

  37. Resolved Question: What is so special about 1947?
  38. 16 Feb 2008 at 7:33pm
1947 seems to have been a turning point in recent history. Israel became a nation again for the first time in thousands of years. The Dead Sea scrolls were discovered after laying in the caves for over 2 thousand years. Roswell New Mexico. I know many don't believe it was of importance but many others do. So what was so special about 1947? Is there a religious significance to it?

  39. Resolved Question: I need car help, please.?
  40. 16 Feb 2008 at 7:28pm
I have an '88 nissan pulsar. When my dad bought the car for me, it had a history of dying when it was warm out, the guy we bought it from said that the car did this. But when he pulled out the fuel injector fuse and put it back in, the car would then start back up again. So to help with this problem, my dad put in a toggle switch. However, this problem has worsen. One day when I was driving it to work it stalled at a stop light. I was able to get it started back up but it took me too many tries to count to get the engine to catch. Finally when I was able to get the engine to catch, it idled for a few minutes then stalled again. Finally the third time i was able for the engine to catch I drove it to the nearby cvs and turned it off. Since then, the car has been sitting and as to today will not start at all (its been about 2 weeks or so). My dad and I believe that its not the fuel injector, the fuel pump, or the fuel filter. If you have any ideas please leave an answer. Thanks So Much! Yes, it does have fuel in it. I had just filled the tank earlier that day before it had died. I know for a fact that the fuses are fine, and there is spark. It also felt like before the car died that it needed more gas to start (when in 1st gear).the spark plugs are all good. and the car does not have a distribuiter.

  53. Resolved Question: Chances of getting into Princeton?
  54. 16 Feb 2008 at 7:06pm
Ok, so I'm a junior wondering what my chances are at Princton U. By the time I graduate I'll have taken 4 AP courses (European History, Calculus AB, American Government, and Economics), all Honors classes, 4 years on the JV cross country team, 4 years of track. GPA of about 3.85-3.95, class rank of about 35 out of 450. Also, I'm a staff member in our school literary magazine, member of the chess team, I may be starting a Language Club (I'll have 4 years of German). I'd be a first generation college student and I have a part time job. Hope the info helps. Princeton graduates/students' opinions would be very helpful! Thanks! Update: the GPA I gave is unweighted. My weighted is 5.43. I scored in the 96th percentile on the PSATs with a 199 - a 1990 if you convert to SAT scoring.

  57. Resolved Question: What's the key to writing a good speech?
  58. 16 Feb 2008 at 7:03pm
And what are the steps? I know that the introduction must include either a story/questions/challenge/history or quotation. But what about the body? And the rest of the speech? How do I make flow all together? But by questioning your audience you are giving them something to think about, and that is a way of attracting their attention. We are doing speeches not essays.

  69. Resolved Question: Why do people think it was impossible for some people to c...
  70. 16 Feb 2008 at 6:45pm
There is actually some evidence that it was possible. The similarities in pyramid structures is one big one. Archeologists are open to the possibility. Most believe that the main migration came from a land bridge, but there is no reason to exclude anyone crossing by boat. People believe others traveled by boat to Australia thousands of years ago so it wasnt impossible to make long ocean voyages. Why is it so impossible that a few groups of people made it across the Atlantic by boat? The americas havent been excavated and studied nearly as much as other parts of the world have, esp the middle east, egypt, parts of europe. Of all the people that ever lived in the entire history of the world is it not at all possible that a few people tried to cross the atlantic and actually made it? How am I ignorant? I clearly know the main theory, land bridge from asia. I know the dna evidence (which still wouldnt exclude all american societies that ever existed). There isnt evidence to say it was impossible. Just because you dont accept a theory doesnt mean others are ignorant for thinking about the possibilities. Why dont you try to avoid the insults and answer the question? It is in this section cuz someone mentioned teaching the mormon (and its not just a mormon theory) of people coming to the americas by boat and I dont see why this possibility should be 100 percent excluded given the fact archeologists dont exclude it 100 percent. There was actually a program on the history channel a few years ago that compared pyramid structures and belief, and some cultural similarities btwn some ancient american cultures and the egyptians. It wasnt a mormon program either. People still wonder how ancient societies had the technological ability to build such structures as the pyramids in egypt. Is building a boat to cross the ocean that much harder than building a pyramid? James It is highly unlikely that a lot of things in the Bible happened. What is your point? Why cant people stick to the question? James It is highly unlikely that a lot of things in the Bible happened. What is your point? Why cant people stick to the question? I am not using this issue to prove mormonism or anything. I am just trying to show how it doesnt really disprove it either. If you were to believe God told the people in the BofM to come to the americas and directed the ship on how it was to be built (which is what the BoM states) then why would that be so impossible? Christians believe Noah built an ark yet discredit mormons because they claim people couldnt build a good enough ship back then. I dont understand the disconnect. Of course I wouldnt expect atheists to believe it at all.

Can anyone name any famous bands which are still active but with zero founding members left? (Would you call them "franchises"?) (inspired by reading the history of Roger Waters and Pink Floyd) Yes I know about Floyd, but several bands have had splits and subsequent rows about who owns the name (Van Halen, Guns'n'Roses, Frankie Goes To Hollywood). But to reach zero members, I think the grim reaper has to get involved.

  89. Resolved Question: Arranged marriage woes?
  90. 16 Feb 2008 at 6:28pm
I am a British asian male who recently had an arranged marriage to a girl from India but I am now not sure if she is the one. I went to India 3 months ago for the purpose of finding a prospective bride. I met this girl who came across as very charming, talkative and friendly. After meeting her face-to-face we had several long telephone conversations to establish compatibility. Although my family members were not so keen on this girl as her family social and economic status, education level were below our desired expectations, they just wanted me to BE married as we had spent a lot of money on wedding arrangements and getting to India and besides everyone was expecting a wedding to take place. The wedding happened. Soon after, I was finding some difficulty in adjusting with her. I began to see we had lot more in difference than what we had in common. She was too religious for my liking and expected me to be the same. She wasnt as bright as I initially thought. She had peculiar short term memory losses which also caused me some concern. I thought these minor issues and differences would resolve with time but soon I had more surprises in stock for me. She has rheumatic fever and whats more she has never been properly treated for it. Its an arthiritic condition in which upto 80% of cases can cause damaged heart valves. The prognosis is poor if heart is affected. She isnt sure whether her heart valves are damaged. She mislead me about her family relations. She lead me to believe that her step mother was her real mother. There are good reasons for her deception. Her real mother was physically abusive towards her and had eventaully abandoned her at the age of 4 yrs. Although I deeply feel sorry for her but cant help thinking that she may have deep psychological problems due to abandonment and abuse she received as a child. Her mother also has history of mental illness. I just hope it isnt a hereditary condition. When I confronted her as to why she decided not to reveal these information prior to the wedding taking place she replied that it may have jeopardised her chance of getting a good husband. She was sworn to secrecy by her family members never to reveal these facts to her husband or his family! I would have really prefered to know these facts before the wedding then I could have made an informed choice. I told her everything about me but couldnt understand how she could hide such important information so selfishly. I was prepared to share my whole life with her, trusting her with everything. I feel angry at her for the fact that she has duped me. I cant help but feel that my attitude has changed towards her. I cant bear her to touch me. There is no intimacy between us. She has lost my trust and respect. I am now back in the UK and I am going through the motion of applying for her UK visa. Looking with hindsight, this wedding was a big mistake and probably the biggest mistake of my life. It has affected me in such a bad way. I constantly feel depressed now. I have gone all introvert. I hardly go out with my friends, rarely go to the gym or play any sports. I've lost so much weight. I find it hard to concentrate on anything for too long. Divorce is an option. Following a divorce I can see my life going back to how it was but divorce being such a taboo subject back in India that it could affect her adversely. She has suffered a lot in her life and this could be just too much. Divorce could mean that she is never able to find a decent husband if she wished to remarry. But yet I dont just want to be with her for the sake a marriage and feeling charity for her. I am really confused. I would really appreciate your advice.

  97. Resolved Question: How can I become qualified to be a special education teach...

I live in MA, and hope to work in special education- How do I get the proper licence? I have my Bachelors Degree (in history) , I took the MTEL test with English as the subject- what additional tests do I need to take , and what addition credentials do i need to be qualified as a special education teacher in MA? Do I need a Masters degree in special education before I can become a teacher in that field? I'd love to work with students who have learning disabilities, such as autism, add, etc.. Also- is there a high demand for special ed teachers in MA- and what is the usual starting salary? Thanks

  99. Resolved Question: What is the answer to all the recent shootings?
  100. 16 Feb 2008 at 6:12pm
My heart goes out to the families of the victims of the NIU shootings, but as a parent of a college student also in college in Illinois i dont think giving her a gun is the answer. The gunman got his guns legally and so did the gunman of VT shootings. What do you think? Should gun laws be stricter because the NIU gunman had a history of mental illness and still got his guns!!< >
