  1. Resolved Question: Windows Ultimate, several licenses?
  2. 18 Apr 2008 at 2:25pm
Ok, at work i do web development and because we have to test our pages on several platforms i installed windows virtual pc 2007. I have vista business running on my machine and we put xp on the virtual machine. The xp version we have is a corporate one that allows you to install it in 100 pcs or so. So I didnt have any issues with registering that version of windows. Now the question i have is, can i do that on my home computer if i only have 1 xp license? can my host OS and my Virtual OS be XP and have the same license or will microsoft say that my virtual pc OS has already been isntalled on a machine (my host machine)?? If i have to buy 2 OS because of virtual PC 2007 that would be ridiculous... Also, I read somewhere that windows ultimate lets you install in several virtual PCs, is this true? Also, is that only with microsoft virtual PC or will that work also with VMware??? Thanks,

  9. Resolved Question: How can I learn to develop software?
  10. 25 Mar 2008 at 11:45pm
I'm in my 50's and didn't start using computers until about 10 years ago. I would like to learn how to develop some simple games. Perhaps learn Jave. I feel left out because I hear about people being able to hack and I don't even know how to use a database or spreadsheet. I can use a word processer and I have networked the wireless network in our house. I've also uploaded video to the web (google) and built a web site on a freeh hosting platform. Anyway I keep looking for a way to become knowledgeable. I would love to use unix or linix but I think learning how to make a game might help me understand the computer better. Thanks for your help. PS classes are out because of work but I can buy canned courses (DVD's or CD's)

  14. 14 Mar 2008 at 10:31pm
I've configured numerous form-to-email scripts with what at least appeared to be pre-programmed CGI scripts. Gate.com is the hosting company and I utilize the Unix platform. All coding in HTML. Thank you for your help!

  15. Resolved Question: Where can I find information on good blog hosting providers?
  16. 13 Mar 2008 at 10:34am
Ok, I know this may be a dumb question, but here goes: I want to start a blog. Partly to put my thoughts out there, of course. But also as a platform to promote my freelance writing--so it has a commercial dimension as well. So: 1) who are some reliable providers where I can set up a blog? 2) The biggie: WHERE do I get information on the rules about using a blog for "business purposes?" The blog won't be a "sales pitch"--the promotional aspect will be "off to one side. The blog itself will be discussion of political/social issues I'm concerned about. I'm not even sure providers even care when a blogger does this (use the blog to let people know they have a service/product to sell. I have tried and can't find an answer to this question. All the sites about blogging seem to assume the reader already knows what they can/cannot do with their blogs. BTW--I'm new to blogging. That's probably painfully obvious! :) Thanks magogoo--READ my post, will you? I've tried to google and otherwise tried to find the answer. This is a serious question. Trolls please buzz off.

  17. Resolved Question: Any car dealers out there want a free website?
  18. 6 Mar 2008 at 11:15pm
Hi all. I'm a freelance web designer in Columbia, South Carolina and I'm trying to beef up my portfolio. I'd like to find an independent auto dealer with about 30 - 40 vehicles to build a website for. Please only answer if you are a dealer and actually plan on using the site. The site will be totally free including domain and hosting. It'll take me about 2 days to build, but then after that, you'll be able to list an unlimited amount of vehicles with 9 photos each. The platform is extremely easy to use. I tried approaching a few dealers in my hometown but none of them were interested.. which I thought was crazy.. I guess they thought I was trying to scam them or something. I have a live demo you can try out, so you can check out how the site works before deciding if you want it or not. Again, there's nothing to pay or sign up for. I just want to have a real client as part of my portfolio. I also do realtor websites too, by the way. Please only serious responses only. Contact me to see my portfolio. Thanks.

  20. 2 Mar 2008 at 4:29pm
Now I know that Richard Dawkins isn't admired by all in the Atheist community but his insistence that humans are mere instruments for "selfish replicators" only reinforces my opinion of atheists as amoral nihilists. In the Blind Watchmaker he talks of these molecules engaging in "evolutionary arms races" and "aspiring to immortality" while animals and humans are unwitting hosts and platforms for their megalomania. And you accuse us Christians of being cranks who worship fairies and spaghetti monsters?????! Ho ho ho!

  22. 2 Mar 2008 at 10:36am
I am in the process of applying to a Doctoral Program in Business. My goal is to build a business income stream by promoting my value proposition to SME businesses to help them save money or improve ROI by implementing my process improvement initiatives. Therefore, I am searching for grants and/or scholarships to buy stand along process improvement, statistical and simulation software, and small Enterprise software-as-a-service platform. In addition, I need to attend e-learning workshops and buy a communication server to develop and host real-time training for SME via my entrepreneurial initiative. My business model will integrate change management, organizational psychology, real-time training and deliver research, design and process improvement solutions; regardless of devices, browsers and platforms.

On godaddy, I bought the hosting service, But I forgot to choose windows in the pull down list, it has two options, linux, and windows. I use windows XP on my pc. 28. 22 Feb 2008 at 8:00pm
I sell on Ebay and I have been doing it for a several months now. Things are going good. I intend to open my own e-commerce website, I am just wondering when I should do it. I am not sure if I should do it until I start to turn a significant profit from my current platform (ebay) or if I should move forward with it regardless of what's going on with my ebay store. The ecommerce investment will be much greater (3-6K) and I just wanted to know what others thought in terms of timing. When to open. Should my profits on ebay be the deciding factor? I know my profits could be higher off ebay because ebay and paypal rob me of a significant amount of money, but then again so would hosting fees, design fees, adverts, etc.

  29. Resolved Question: video file format that works best on all platforms?
  30. 19 Feb 2008 at 3:06am
i am showing a video clip to a class. what do you think is the best format to save it in so the host computer can read it? i work on a mac and i'm playing it back on a windows computer. i don't want to have to download codecs and software just so it can be played back. i'm leaning towards quicktime (.mov), is that okay (i'm rendering it in after effects)?

  39. Resolved Question: Whose First Ammendment Rights Should Have Priority: U.S. V...
  40. 17 Jan 2008 at 11:00pm
Why were the original standards for the debate suddenly not good enough? NBC declared that it was merely exercising "journalistic discretion," but why did that discretion change so quickly? The obvious answer is that when the previous criteria were set, there were four candidates polling better than Kucinich in the Democratic race. When one of them, New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson, dropped out of the race, NBC suddenly switched to a standard that only allowed the top three candidates to debate. Does Kucinich's campaign represent ideas that offend either NBC managers or their bosses at General Electric? It's a fair question, given that MSNBC canceled Phil Donahue's nightly show in early 2003 due to the host's opposition to the Iraq War; the company worried that the host would be a "difficult public face for NBC in a time of war" (NBC internal memo.) Kucinich's peace platform might be something that a major defense contractor like General Electric would rather not expose to voters. http://www.fair.org/index.php?page=3246 Fifteen minutes before the NBC Las Vegas debate, the Nevada Supreme Court granted NBC's "emergency" appeal and barred Dennis Kucinich from the televised debate. The court held that the "first amendment rights" of a "corporate media outlet" trumped the right of the American people to an open debate process. What this ruling effectively says is that private, unelected media corporations can decide who can and cannot appear in an officially sanctioned presidential debate. This ruling is an extremely dangerous precedent. steddy voter-The "airwaves" are the transmission frequencies used by radio, TV and satellite broadcasters, cell phone companies ? even your TV remote control ? to transmit signals. The airwaves themselves, while utilized by a wide variety of users, ultimately belong to you in the same way that your sidewalk or your public park belongs to you. Radio and TV broadcasters, though, use these airwaves free of charge ? even though they make enormous profits from them. In return for this favor, by law, broadcasters are supposed to serve the "public interest." Although the public owns the airwaves that are used by radio, television, cell phone and satellite companies citizens have rarely played a role in spectrum allocation debates. In fact, citizens rarely even get to use these airwaves to make their own voices heard!

  47. Resolved Question: Programmers: Open Source question?
  48. 5 Jan 2008 at 9:17am
I have couple questions about open source software like Wordpress. Is it legal to copy the code from Wordpress and produce different kind of blogging hosting application on the net? If not then is it very complicated to develop one? Because I'm trying to find an offshore programmer to develop one for me so I can start my own blog hosting platform. I thought that it is possible to just copy from Wordpress so the production cost would be much cheaper. Someone already offered me $4000-$5000 for the blogging platform, is it a good deal?

  49. Resolved Question: At my New Year's Eve Party I Kinda Kissed The Wrong Guy?
  50. 1 Jan 2008 at 6:38am
Ok so I had a awsome New Year's Eve Party. I invited my bf's (ex) friend. But, when the the clock went to 12 and we started to open the champain and fireworks and such we sorda kissed my accident. And my bf(ex) saw it. He yelled at me and left. What do I do? I feel guilty. I mean I like his friend but, not all the way. I love him. How do I explain to him. EXTRA: When he left I had the worst new year ever! I ran after him but, he wouldn't listen. I really made a mistake!!! Then for the rest of the night I was the host of th eparty so, I couldn't leave. P.S. When I ran I almost slipped so his friend catched me and I was even sadder. 51. Resolved Question: How ironic is this Geno's inquisitors show signs of bad ju...
  52. 17 Dec 2007 at 7:56pm
THEY SAY YOU can't fight City Hall, but last Friday Joey Vento stood tall (at 5-foot-5) in the center ring of the circus to answer a discrimination complaint filed against him by the Philadelphia Commission on Human Relations. Vento's been a handy punching bag for the press. Local editorial writers and columnists have vilified him as a racist, a nativist, a know-nothing, a do-badder, because of his (now world-famous) 4-by-9-inch sign at the window of his Geno's Steaks that reads: "This is America. When Ordering, Please Speak English." Some believe that is hate speech. For some reason (hate, perhaps?) the 6 1/2 -hour hearing was conducted entirely in English, a clear slap in the face to the Hispanic, Asian, Pacific Islander and Esperanto communities. The commission itself bringing a charge has happened only once before in the last 20 years, said Allen. Why is Vento so special? Allen signed the complaint because the commission - which enforces laws against discrimination - could find no one to testify being denied service for linguistic impropriety at Geno's, which served 780,000 people last year. Both sides agreed no one has ever been denied service because they no speaka da English. Geno's actions aren't on trial, it's the wording of the sign, which commission attorney Paul M. Hummer said was (constitutionally protected) political speech when used at a rally, but discriminatory when glued to Geno's window. Because it is near a sign giving management the right to refuse service to anyone, it's an "implied threat," Hummer said. Both signs are near a sign quoting President Teddy Roosevelt as saying to be an American, you must speak English. Is that discriminatory? The commission called five witnesses and it was pitiful and painful to hear them, a Cult of Victimhood, trying to equate "Please Order in English" to "Whites Only" signs in the Jim Crow South, or "No Spanish or Mexicans" signs of an earlier era. The Cult called Vento's sign "a factor of intimidation," "insensitive," "offensive," "humiliating." Cult members had two things in common: They spoke their opinions, and they did so in English. I was disappointed the audience of about 100 did not contain the "hate groups" promised by the Pennsylvania Immigration and Citizenship Coalition - unless PICC meant the 40 listeners bussed in with WPHT/1210-AM radio host Dom Giordano. PICC executive director Regan Cooper told me Vento uses the sign "as a platform to spread anti-immigrant myths and attack the Mexican community." Two things. First, that's not what he's charged with. Second, the limelight-loving Vento, who cracks syntax like walnuts, will be the first to tell you he's no diplomat. When speaking, he sometimes neglects to distinguish between legal and illegal immigrants. PICC does the same thing. Hummer says the fact that no one actually was denied service is beside the point. The "crime" is in the language. If, like me, you have to ask, "Is this really a crime?," chances are it's not. I know some people hunger to feel offended and humiliated by Vento's sign. I know 780,000 Geno's patrons last year did not. If Vento's sign is hate speech, so is "no shirt, no shoes, no service." It discriminates, too. * http://www.philly.com/philly/hp/news_update/20071217_Stu_Bykofsky___Genos_inquisitors _show_signs_of_bad_judgment.html

  55. Resolved Question: Are there ANY Black Celebrities endorsing ANY white Candid...

Following Ophrah's aggressive endorsement of Obama, Many other black celebrities such as Will Smith, Forest Whitaker, Denzel Washington & a host of others are now coming out to support, endorse & campaign for Obama.----I have not heard of even ONE black celebrity who is endorsing or supporting ANY white Candidate ??????---Surely; this is not merely coincidental & if these black celebrities were really endorsing Obama because of his record & platform, NOT because of his skin color------Wouldn't the " law of averages " dictate that, in all likelihood, at least ONE black celebrity would endorse a white Candidate because they agreed with the Candidate's record & platform ??-- Are there now or do you think there will be ANY black celebrities who wil NOT endorse Obama but WILL endorse a white Candidate ?? capnbill---your answer is completely wrong probably because you did not bother to read the question which referred to black HOLLYWOOD/TV celebrities NOT black " leaders "
