  4. 7 Apr 2008 at 10:27pm
In china, when we speak of "boss" we usually mean the owner of company, or store, or whatever alike. However, in America I know it also means your superiors. So I want to know how Americans use this word in most cases in their career lives. Say, there may be many a superiors in the organization, generally who will be called as "boss" by us? Should it be your direct superior?

  26. 7 Apr 2008 at 8:40pm
technology credits are a graduation requirement at my high school. during your four years, you have to take two semester classes (meeting one hour 6 out of every 8 school days). To open room for other classes, I want to take an online course outside of school, instead of one of the semester classes. can you suggest a program or organization? my school is tough about credits, and it will need to be approved by the principal. probably something related to a college? Thank you!

  27. Resolved Question: A religious discussion at my office...what is your opinion?
  28. 7 Apr 2008 at 8:24pm
I happen to be talking with someone in my office an older man in his 60's...he was talking about his days as a social worker and how sometimes the homeless people he dealt with had to go to places to obtain clothing, food and often times shelter. I asked him this question that I had always had on my mind but only asked a couple of times before. ...that is are the places that seem to provide food, clothing and shelter and assisting these homeless people or any person who finds them selves in dire straights mostly Christian Organizations...he said yes. ....are there any Muslim, Hindu, Buddist or any other organization who are out there that he knows of trying also to assist just from the good of their own heart....he said none that he knows of [unless government sponsored] ...my question is The "Salvation" Army, "Red Cross" multiple "Missions" and Churches are out there helping..sacificing...could it be that Jesus is real as evidenced by the acts of his followers. "nerdling" ... I was just curious that is why I asked, but the tremendously huge athiest organization...well I noticed that you did not name it...does it have a name...does it really exist??? "nerdling" a bit misleading..the Gates foundation is a "secular" foundation..not having ties to religious organ.. but not "athiest" as you have tried to make it out to be. It is not the biggest although Gates is the richest person.

  37. Resolved Question: Political job search engines?
  38. 7 Apr 2008 at 7:39pm
I graduated from Central Connecticut State University in May of 2007 since then I have tried for several jobs within and outside of the political realm. I know of such search engines like Democraticgain.org and Hillzoo.com and CQ's job site. I live in Connecticut and ideally would like to find a political job within the state of connecticut since it probably makes more economic sense vs living on my own in a city which will increase your cost of living. I don't want to work with such organizations like US Public Interest Research Group or CT Working Families Party. I have done canvassing before and feel as though I am past that because of my college degree? Am I wrong? I would really appreciate an outside view; if you need any further clarification or info Ill be happy to add it.

This question also applies to any of the many branch organizations of theosophy, such as the Summit Lighthouse, the I AM movement, etc. I ask because, in studying theosophy through online sources, I've found many sources of pro-theosophical discourse, but relatively few sources which have argued against the beliefs of the movement. Look up "theosophy" on wikipedia if you don't know what I'm talking about. Rather interesting read, if you're into this sort of thing.

  53. Resolved Question: Fraternal Order of Police Question?
  54. 7 Apr 2008 at 6:45pm
How can we tell whether we are dealing with the "real" fraternal order of police. I'll explain. There are times these organizations engage in telephone drives to raise money for the families of fallen or injured officers. It sounds like a good idea. But come to find out, some con artists are out here impersonating such organizations to get money under false circumstances. So, how can we tell whether we are being contacted by the real fraternal order of police organizations? Just as a bit of info, I don't give credit card info or money to people soliciting funds over the phone. And it would pretty much take a crow bar to get some money out of me for something shady. But at the same time, I wish to give to good causes such as this one.

  57. Resolved Question: Logic Proves God's Existance?
  58. 7 Apr 2008 at 6:13pm
Let's say one day you are traveling through the Sahara Desert. It's a hot day, and you're cruising along with your friend in a jeep. Your friend's driving while you're enjoying the view. From a distance, your eye catches something glistening. Out of curiosity, you ask your friend to pull over and see what it is. Half way buried in the sand, you and your friend find a beautiful gold watch. Its intricate design and glamorous appeal is too much to resist. So, you pick it up and take a closer look. Your fingers run over the watch. You start wondering who could have made this piece of art. *Logic guides you to ask "Who could have made this?"* Why is it that when it comes to life or the universe, some suggest it is a result of an explosion or random chance? Can Chaos (an explosion) create Order (a perfect planetary organization)?

  59. Resolved Question: Do you think this Non-Profit for veterans will work out????
  60. 7 Apr 2008 at 6:07pm
I am considering starting a non-profit organization that helps veterans families get health insurance. These veterans (especially OEF/OIF) are coming home and they themselves have insurance through the VA but not their families. I would like to assist them with this by raising funds through various health foundations, along with veterans organizations and purchase health insurance plans for these families. I would start with my surrounding county and hope that it would take off from there. What do you think???? Any advice, suggestions, what do you think I should name it, etc?

  71. Voting Question: Individualism vs. Collectivism?
  72. 7 Apr 2008 at 4:18pm
I have recently started writing my term paper about the evaluation of Individualism vs. Collectivism. My outline is as follows.. First I introduce these terms and what topics are involved in these two aspects and then I will evaluate them regarding some researches that was done before.. After that I may resolve the consequences of being in an individualist and collectivist cultures by applying some specific examples from books that I have read about. After all, in conclusion, I will mention my own idea about these topics and probably say that; although collectivism seems better than individualism in theory, it is not the case that everybody wo?uld help each other in a group relation since each man has different ideas, instincs or whaterver you call..I mean individualism is better in practice actually! However I think there is a problem in my organization of applying these terms to my paper. So, do you have any suggestions regarding my outline? Is there anything that should be involved?

  74. 7 Apr 2008 at 3:36pm
I have been interested in this organization for a while now, but I never took the leap to rush for fear of rejection. Now i'm about to graduate and I know that you can go grad-chapter but I was told that by doing that no one will respect you. Is that true? I thought it was suppose to be about sisterhood and serving the community so why does it make such a difference if you go grad or under grad? What does it mean exactly to be a member of DST, I know what I think it means but i'm not a member so I can't say for sure? I mean what are the benefits because I have sisters and networking ability.

  75. Resolved Question: I Neep Help Giving My Answer Of Why I Want To Pledge!!?
  76. 7 Apr 2008 at 3:34pm
I've been interested in pledging a sorority since 2000 but I decided not to pursue it during undergrad. I am now in grad school and have found an alumnae chapter. I went to their rush last year but because I was in school 2 nights a week, I was unable to go through with the process. They are expecting to have another intake in 2 years but when any of my friends asks why I want to join I have a hard time explaning why. If I can't tell my friends why then how can I tell those in the organization? I don't want to sound like I'm coming off as being cheesy or fake. I really enjoy helping people and giving back. For the last 4 years, I've been a cheerleading coach and its really time consuming so I haven't been able to volunteer with other community organizations. I'm also afraid I'll be told I don't have enough community service under my belt. Any Advice??? Responses from those in organizations are preferred but all answers are welcome.

I would like to move to Baja California and start a non-profit animal rescue but I really have no clue how to get started. I have worked in the non profit sector for many years but only for established organizations based in the United States. I am familar with the visa requirements for living in Mexico (I am a US citizen) but I am uncertain how to get started with moving there, finding a place to live, renting a facility to run the non-profit from, starting the non-profit, getting grants or funding, getting local support from residents, vets, etc... the list goes on! I would appreciate any insight that anyone could provide. Thank you!

  87. Resolved Question: Accurate statement of (general) feminist movement goal?
  88. 7 Apr 2008 at 1:41pm
"Since the Feminist movement began in the late 19th century, women, and even a few men, have fought for what they believed to be rightfully theirs- the ability to claim total ownership of their bodies and actions." Is this an accurate statement? If not, how/why? I'm trying to finish up a paper on Raunch Culture/the feminist movement, and I can't seem to find a concrete goal that is general enough to encompass more than a select few feminist organizations. When did the bulk of the movement really get underway, though? It seems silly to list the 1500s as the starting point if all that was happening on a global scale was a few women pointing out their issues with the patriarchy. And, if I'm grossly uninformed, school me, send me a link, etc. I've written from that point in a paper on the American Feminist movement, but right now I really need something more all-encompassing than the US Constitution.

  95. Resolved Question: Why is it claimed scientists support global warming theory...
  96. 7 Apr 2008 at 1:31pm
Most of the scientists who agree that (mostly man made) global warming is real don't get funding for global warming research. They include the members of EVERY major scientific organization: The National Academy of Sciences, the American Association for the Advancement of Science, the American Institute of Physics, the American Chemical Society, the American Geophysical Union, the American Meteorological Association, etc. These people don't get funding for global warming research, but they do know what good science is, and what scientific proof is. William Gray is a 78 year old hurricane forecaster who decided he'd leave his field of expertise and start pontificating on global warming. It's no wonder he'd have trouble getting grants. Or that he'd complain about it. Care to prove he was "cut off", other than by his statements? The vast number of the scientists in the private sector also support global warming science, except for some who work for fossil fuel companies. Most of the members of the ACS (and some of the other organizations) work in the private sector. The comments on the IPCC are backwards. Actually, Hansen (and many others) criticism of the IPCC is that they are too conservative about the science. "Of course, being a consensus document, a lot of the material that I think is reasonably well-supported also gets weeded out through that process. If the IPCC says it you better believe it and then leave room to think it is actually a lot worse than they have said." Tim Flannery "The drafting of reports by the world?s pre-eminent group of climate scientists is an odd process. For many months scientists contributing to the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change tussle over the evidence. Nothing gets published unless it achieves consensus. This means that the panel?s reports are extremely conservative ? even timid. It also means that they are as trustworthy as a scientific document can be." George Monbiot There may be a lot of funding for global warming. But MOST scientists don't get ANY funding for it. I think it's pretty obvious that few chemists or physicists or biologists are funded for global warming research.

I have been a stay at home mother and full time student for two years. I want to return to work next year and would like to ease my way back into the workforce. I will graduate with my bachelors in Business Administration in the fall and begin my masters in Personal Financial Planning. To earn CFP certification three years of experience is required and I have none in the area. Would a company like Ameriprise even want to deal with a volunteer with no experience? What is a good way to get started. By the way, that only work experience I have is five years in the Army.
