Moodle Feature Request: Control Mime Types of Uploaded Files

From the website: Moodle is a course management system (CMS) - a free, Open Source software package designed using sound pedagogical principles, to help educators create effective online learning communities. You can download and use it on any computer you have handy (including webhosts), yet it can scale from a single-teacher site to a 40,000-student University. Not being able to control the mime type that students upload adds a layer of frustration for teachers and students when the incorrect mime type is caught too late. A little error correction at the beginning, i.e. mime file type check, goes a very long ways.

You can download and use it on any computer you have handy (including webhosts), yet it can scale from a single-teacher site to a 40,000-student University.--http://moodle.org/ Student products take a number of shapes and file formats. It would be a huge benefit if there was a MIME type controller on file types. Students who try to upload incorrect file formats will be stopped before proceeding thereby reducing the amount of time a teacher has to take to remind the students of the desired format. Once in place, a way to sort MIME types would be great! If you've got other tips and tricks for Moodle please share your screencast by publishing!

Yes, it's a problem with instruction. Yes, it's the job of the student to pay attention. Yes, it would be very nice if there was a MIME type control option for Moodle admins. If you know how to set up Moodle or run a course more efficiently using Moodle and its resources please publish your screencasts! Help spread the word and share the wealth!<
